According to Football Insider, Newcastle have rekindled their interest in Leicester City’s Hamza Choudhury.
They report that Steve Bruce has recently been in touch with the midfielder in a bid to beat Southampton to a potential summer deal – a clear sign of intent after his proposed January loan move to St James’ Park broke down on deadline day.
This comes after Leicester struck a deal to sign Lille star and former NUFC target Boubakary Soumare – a seemingly imminent move that would finally pave the way for Choudhury’s exit.
Football Insider report that he is one of Bruce’s ‘top targets’ this summer, which makes sense given the 23-year-old looked all set to arrive in January until a deal was blocked by Brendan Rodgers at the 11th hour when the Foxes failed to land a replacement.
Choudhury, a tough tackling midfielder who has recently represented England’s U21s, has struggled for game time at the King Power Stadium over the past few seasons, with 12 of his 22 appearances across 2020/21 coming from the bench.
The Athletic recently reported that Bruce would ideally like to sign a couple of midfielders this summer, so it would not surprise me if he tried to bring in Willock AND Choudhury – two very different midfielders who may just be available on loan with an obligation to buy?
Another name to watch out for just a few days before the window officially opens.
