The legendary ‘grandad collar’ looks set for a return to the Newcastle United shirt next season, with The Chronicle claiming to have received a few early hints from incoming kit supplier Castore.
Toon fans have been in uproar at the lack of information regarding next season’s kit, as most top flight clubs have already announced – and some of them even played in – their shirts for the 2021/22 campaign.
That said, the report states that Castore are ‘days away’ from being officially unveiled – making us the second Premier League club they’ve secured after Wolves took them on last month.
The new suppliers look set to replace Puma in a deal worth a reported £5m and, after speaking to a source close to the brand, The Chronicle understand that the shirt below could be something close to our new home kit:
Here’s what The Chronicle have been told after speaking to someone close to the kit supplier:
‘Other details on the new kit shared by our source suggest it may have thicker black stripes than usual, an all-white grandad neck collar running deep into the chest with two buttons. The material behind the buttons will be light blue. Castore’s logo will be large and feature the brand name below in capitals. The sleeves are mostly black with some white detail on the hem.’
Our stylish 1995-97 kit at the peak of the Entertainers era under Kevin Keegan is widely regarded as one of the most iconic shirts in Premier League history, with the unique collar being a key aspect of the design.
Would you be happy if this is the new design for 2021/22?
