According to The Sun’s Alan Nixon, Crystal Palace could beat Newcastle to a deal for Watford midfielder Will Hughes.
He claims that Steve Bruce is eager to sign the 26-year-old, however, it’s his understanding that his recruitment team are not sold on a move for the former Derby star.
As a result, Nixon claims that club are ‘split’ over his signing, giving Crystal Palace the opportunity to swoop in.
Hughes has barely kicked a ball over pre-season, hasn’t been training with the squad and missed out on their opening day win over Aston Villa, with him currently refusing to sign a new deal.
He’s entered the final year of his contract at Vicarage Road and could therefore be available at a cut-price fee this summer, however it seems Bruce is struggling to convince the club to make a move.
Personally, I feel like it would be more of the same if we signed Hughes. He’s a tidy player who works hard, but will he add that defensive steal or dynamism our engine room often lacks? I don’t think so.
Let him go. He’s not what we need right now imo. We need a strong DCM, CB and striker cover for Wilson before we look at Hughes – we have Willock, Miggy, and either ASM or Fraser could cover that ACM position if push come to shove – strengthen where needed first I say.

As above – ANOTHER Midfielder (!!!???) – NEED to get shot of a FEW FIRST – WE NEED 2 defenders (right and left backs) and at LEAST one good striker = 4-2 down and you don’t bring on your only other striker – something is wrong – Gayle is a brilliant championship striker…
..sell and get 2 good strikers in ASAP
Look at Bruce only 2 choices – Hendrick and Fraser = RUBBISH
Look Bruce didn’t want Willock & threw his toys out the pram when we missed out on lingard to WH..
..walked out and then wouldn’t talk to willock or charmless for 2 months
