On Monday, The Times revealed who they believed to be the four ‘leading contenders’ for the Newcastle United job.
Those four included Villarreal’s Unai Emery, Belgium boss Roberto Martinez, Chelsea legend Frank Lampard and Steve Gerrard – the current Rangers manager.
Soon after, popular fan page @NUFC360 put out a poll asking Newcastle United fans which of the above they’d like to see replace Steve Bruce – and the results are interesting after over 10,000 votes.
Emery came out on top with 40% of the vote, with Gerrard coming next at 31%, Martinez third on just shy of 22% and Lampard bottom at just 7%.

It’s interesting to see Emery top the vote. Some are wary of his unsuccessful season at Arsenal – his only taste of English football – however it would be narrow minded to focus solely on this when he’s had so much success elsewhere.
He’s won an unprecedented three consecutive Europa Leagues, guided Villarreal to their first major continental trophy earlier this year and had more success than most at PSG.
Would you be happy if the Spaniard arrived at St James’ Park as Steve Bruce’s replacement?
I think Gerrard has the credentials for the job – but he’s in line to be the next Lpool manager. Is he really likely to spend the next 3 years building us into a club that could end up taking titles off his Lpool side.
I know we will anyway, but would he really want to play a part in that?!.
