NUFC’s manager search narrowed down to two with top target set to cost £5m – The Athletic

According to The Athletic, Newcastle United have narrowed their manager search down to TWO candidates – Unai Emery and Eddie Howe.

David Ornstein’s update reveals that Emery is now the ‘leading contender’ and ‘preferred option’, stating that the club are working to finalise an agreement with the former Arsenal boss.

The report states that we would need to pay a compensation fee of £5m to land the Spaniard, who is under contract with Villarreal until 2023.

They also claim that the decision could come down to whether or not the Saudi consortium are prepared to meet the 49-year-old’s personal terms and pay him the sort of salary he earned during his time with at The Emirates.

It’s said ‘no agreement is in place yet’, but it seems we finally know the club’s leading target to replace Steve Bruce, with Sky Sports and The Telegraph also running very similar stories in the last few moments.

As for Eddie Howe, he’s a very different alternative to Emery – making him a surprise ‘second choice’ if the club fail to strike a deal with Villarreal.

  1. With all their big plans – they are reaching for the gutter with Howe!

All we’ve been hearing is BLAH, BLAH, BLAH from Manager’s Agents trying to get a job elsewhere SO why not link there client to NUFC and raise their profile!

  2. I think either of these 2 are a big mistake, Emery failed with a lot of good players at Arsenal, why would he succeed with a load of very average players and a few poor players does not make sense to me. As for Howe, why?
