Results are in as 10,000 fans vote for preferred new manager after Emery blow – 4 contenders

With number one target Unai Emery now out of the running, we’re back to the drawing board and left wondering who the new owners will target next.

Several outlets have named Eddie Howe as the new favourite, while Sky Sports have confirmed that Roberto Martinez, Lucien Favre and Paulo Fonseca have all held talks with the Saudi-backed consortium since Steve Bruce was sacked.

As a result, popular fan page @NUFC360 have ran a poll on Twitter last night, asking Toon fans who out of the four they’d like to see take over on Tyneside.

After just over 10,000 votes, Portuguese coach Paulo Fonseca is the most popular choice on 35.3%, followed by ex-Dortmund boss Lucien Favre (29.9%) and bookies favourite Eddie Howe (23.8%), with Belgium manager Roberto Martinez deemed the least attractive option with 10.9% of the vote.

If these are the four contenders left after Emery’s snub, who would you like to see arrive at St James’ Park and why?

  1. I know everything happened quickly but now everyone has had time to run the rule and form an opinion.

Even if Fonseca is chosen … 64.7% of the fanbase now have a preferred alternative.

To be quite honest the NUFC fanbase know a lot more about football than the consortium ultimately making the decision.

Can’t blame them for the time taken but the press leaks or tip offs aren’t helping.

  2. IF Howe gets the job = we’ll be looking for another manager before the end of the season

No ability to get a ship back on course!

I know we all have different options now that we’ve got wads of money BUT one has to look where we are and what we need right now…

…for me it has to be Frank Lampard – OK, didn’t have a brilliant time at chelski but at Derby he did & would grow with us AND has a point to prove – PLUS if the worst happens and this sorry bunch of players take us down I do think he would get us back

The answer isn’t Howe – apart from the fall out over Fraser he’s not got what it takes to make the impact WE NEED

Hopefully FL has his own coaching staff as Jones + are a waste of space

  3. Obviously Favre is the most qualified and if teamed up with the German
who could handle the General management role could be ideal, not that
happy with Howe or the rest as we need the best available’
to please our new masters who appear to be taking an active role in the procedure which is not really their choice however there’s a lt of opposition to the Toon as we speak, jerks mostly.
