New report claims England international now Eddie Howe’s top January target

According to The Mail, Eddie Howe is eager to bring Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks to St James’ Park in January.

The report states that the 25-year-old has been identified as ‘prime transfer target’ heading into the winter window, with the new NUFC boss keen to have another ball-player in the middle of the park.

Winks is an England international, racking up 10 caps for the Three Lions, however he’s fallen out of Gareth Southgate’s plans over the last 12 months after struggling to nail down a place in the Spurs side.

He’s only played three times in the Premier League this season, yet one of those appearances came in Tottenham’s 2-1 win over Leeds on Sunday night – a result that did us a favour in and around the relegation places.

Time will tell if he has a future under new boss Antonio Conte, with game time between now and the new year likely to be key when it comes to his potential availability in January.

A tidy player with a decent eye for a pass and good engine, would you like to see Winks arrive on Tyneside this winter?

  1. The PL clubs should be angry with Richard Masters and Not Newcastle. Wonder why the Big Six or Seven had such big power to manipulate the PL. Richards should step down.
