Newcastle launch huge offer to sign Manchester Utd’s Jesse Lingard in January – The Times

A big ‘exclusive’ was released in the early hours of Saturday morning by The Times‘ Martin Hardy, sharing an update on Newcastle United’s pursuit of Jesse Lingard.

The well known North-East reporter has revealed that the Manchester United midfielder is now the club’s top target heading into the January transfer window.

Not only that, he claims the 28-year-old has been offered a four-and-a-half-year deal by the Saudi-backed consortium – who are believed to have held talks with Lingard’s advisers recently.

The England international has also been offered a contract that would see him earn ‘significantly’ more than £100,000-per-week, with the package on the table so lucrative it would make him the ‘highest paid player in the club’s history’.

Lingard is out of contract at the end of the season, yet The Times claim we are ready to pay a ‘substantial transfer fee’ to secure his signature next month.

Here’s a snippet from Martin Hardy’s latest piece:

Newcastle United have made the signing of Jesse Lingard their priority in the January transfer window and are prepared to offer a deal that will make him the highest earner in the club’s history.

Lingard’s contract at Manchester United is due to expire next summer and Newcastle want to kickstart their season and usher in a new era at the club. Talks have already taken place with Lingard’s advisers and he has been offered a 4½-year deal significantly in excess of the £100,000-a-week salary of the club’s present top earner, Miguel Almirón.

Newcastle are ready to offer a substantial transfer fee for the England international, despite the short amount of time left on his contract.

Lingard has struggled for game time all season at Old Trafford, however showed his quality at Premier League level midway through the 2020/21 season, scoring nine goals in 16 appearances for West Ham.

If he could have that sort of impact at Eddie Howe’s NUFC, he might just be well worth the money!

  1. Lindgard’s a good idea – it’ll give Willock somebody to sit on the bench next to.

Not sure where you got Miggy’s salary from – everything I read has him on 42K with either Shelvey or Joelinton top on 86.
