Eddie Howe sends message to NUFC fans & singles out star player after ‘massive’ win vs Burnley

Eddie Howe has hailed “exceptional” Toon fans for their support during our 1-0 win against Burnley, while also singling out match-winner Callum Wilson for his heroics in front of goal.

After a nervy opening 20 minutes, Newcastle settled and began to get a grip on the must-win game, with number nine Wilson tucking away a superb finish to give us a half-time advantage.

Sean Dyche was clearly incensed with the goal on the touchline as he thought Nick Pope had been fouled in the build-up.

We took control in the second half and deserved to win the game, with Howe having a smile as wide as the River Tyne at the full-time whistle and NUFC held on for our first win in over six months.

This is what he said in his post-match presser, as he thanked supporters for getting behind the team:

“Absolutely delighted for everyone connected with the club.

““It was a massive game for us, and I thought the lads responded.

“After the first 20 minutes, we were great today.

“Very nervy towards the end, as we were desperate for the win.

“The players managed that part really well.

“The spirit in the group has shown, and the atmosphere was exceptional. I can’t praise the supporters enough.

“The relationship we’ve quickly built with the supporters is really special.

I thought they were excellent today.

“It’s an amazing feeling to get that first win for them for all they’ve given us in the last few weeks.”

Howe also spoke about what he has tried to implement on the training ground since being appointed head coach and had a special mention for our number nine Callum Wilson, who scored the deciding goal.

“We’ve tried to bring our philosophy to the team – to be front foot and be more aggressive.

“We have technical players and athletes. Confidence is a key in any sport, and we have lacked that, but today goes a long way to rebuilding that.

“It was a delicate one this week, with three games in a week, and keeping him (Wilson) fit, but he was excellent today.

“His finish for the goal was high class. He will be vital for us. We will need him before now – and until the end of the season.”

  1. Love the way Howe & Tindall engage on the twitter video but he barley looks at Jones-telling?
