Newcastle suffer fresh blow as transfer supremo ‘rejects’ Toon role – The Telegraph

Michael Emenalo has rejected a move to Newcastle following talks with club chiefs in Saudi Arabia, according to The Telegraph.

The former Chelsea supremo – who brought Salah, Hazard, Lukaku and De Bruyne to England – was linked with a potential director of football role under our new regime, but appears to have ruled himself out of the running.

The Telegraph’s piece claims Newcastle were unwilling to match Emenalo’s ambitions, strange claims considering the club is now backed by an oil-rich state and have the biggest pot of gold in world football.

I wonder if Emenalo was never actually the clear front runner some people made him out to be.

All the noise about his appointment appeared to emerge from his camp, with no reputed North East journo ever calling him our number one target.

Instead, it was the likes of Football Insider who were beating his drum, even suggesting his arrival was imminent just a few weeks ago…

It will be a squeeze to get a sporting director in place with a vision for the January transfer window in four weeks time; Howe is likely to work alongside Steve Nickson and the club’s board to bring in transfer targets.

I’m happy with that as it means the club can take its time on finding the right man in the summer who can come here with long-term aspirations.

  1. I stopped by an article in the Chronicle a couple of days ago by Charlie Bennett.
I didn’t read the article but I did read a comment by someone suggesting that the author had never had an original thought.
And by what I assume is pure coincidence, here is someone called Charlie Bennett cobbling together an article based on what the Telegraph has had to say.
Lacking original thought one might say.
