Sky Sports have revealed that Newcastle United are confident they’ll complete a move for Sevilla centre-back Diego Carlos, despite suggestions from Spain that he’s staying put.
This comes from North-East reporter Keith Downie, who claims that Newcastle and Sevilla are now close to agreeing a fee over a deal for the Brazilian.
He insists that player himself does want to leave the La Liga side in order to secure a big money move to Tyneside, with the 28-year-old said to have already agreed personal terms with the club over a lucrative contract.
Carlos played the full 90 minutes in Sevilla’s 1-1 draw with Valencia last night – a result that leaves them four points behind leaders Real Madrid.
However, some feared this morning that our hopes of signing the centre-back may be dwindling, with the South American believed to have told the Spanish press “I have a lot of time left here (in Seville)” after the game.
Carlos appears to have laughed off these so-called comments in the last few hours, with him posting the following on his Instagram in reaction:
Is penfold still at Newcastle bloody looks like it why were these deals not sorted out in December

Delays are nothing to do with our side. In January the selling club has the upper hand especially if they know you have lots of money. Our owners will not be made fools of to pay over the top for a player just because they can.
