The Mail’s Craig Hope has revealed that highly-rated midfielder Elliot Anderson is set to link up with Joey Barton at Bristol Rovers.
The former NUFC midfielder is currently in charge of the League Two side after being appointed last February following a spell in the third tier with Fleetwood Town.
Hope claims that Newcastle United trust that Barton will help the 19-year-old’s development, also revealing that his relationship with Shola Ameobi – the club’s ‘loan manager’ – and Steve Harper played a part in him landing the midfielder.
Luton Town were heavily linked a few weeks ago, with a host of Championship and League One sides said to have been interested, however he’ll now join Joe White (who joined Hartlepool earlier this week) in spending the rest of the season in League Two.
Another player who could be heading to the fourth tier of English football is Matty Longstaff, with journalists Alan Nixon and Peter O’Rourke claiming that Mansfield Town have made a loan bid for the 21-year-old.
