Every done deal & where NUFC targets ended up as January window slams shut – 6 in, 7 out

That’s it folks. The 11pm deadline has passed and with that the January transfer window has slammed shut for another year.

With Matt Target and Dan Burn arriving on deadline day, we go into February with six new players in our ranks (five senior signings and one for the U23s).

Without further ado, here’s all the ins and outs we’ve seen over the past month, covering everything from U-23’s (*), senior signings, the Toon ‘targets’ who didn’t come off and the Newcastle players who missed out on moves away:

  • Chris Wood – £25m (Burnley)
  • Bruno Guimaraes – £40m (Lyon)
  • Matt Targett – Loan (Aston Villa)
  • Dan Burn – £13m (Brighton)

OUT

  • Freddie Woodman – Loan (Bournemouth)
  • Jeff Hendrick – Loan (QPR)
  • * Matty Longstaff – Loan (Mansfield Town)
  • * Elliot Anderson – Loan (Bristol Rovers)
  • * Joe White – Loan (Hartlepool Utd)
  • * Matt Bondswell – Loan (Shrewsbury Town)
  • * Rosaire Longelo – Undisclosed fee (Accrington Stanley)

NUFC ‘targets’ who stayed put or signed elsewhere:

  • Jesse Lingard – Man Utd blocked a deadline day move to NUFC
  • Hugo Ekitike – Reims striker opted against January move after we had £25m bid accepted
  • Diego Carlos – Sevilla rejected our offer, despite player asking to leave
  • Sven Botman – Lille refused to sell, but player believed to be keen
  • Eddie Nketiah – Stayed at Arsenal after the Gunners lost Aubameyang to Barcelona
  • Donny van de Beek – Signed for Everton on loan after rejecting NUFC
  • Dele Alli – Signed for Everton on a permanent deal after late loan bid from NUFC
  • Issa Diop – Stayed at West Ham after Hammers failed to sign new CB
  • Dean Henderson – Man Utd stopper denied move. Stays as cover for David De Gea
  • Bern Leno – Stayed at Arsenal, as USA stopper Matt Turner won’t arrive until summer
  • Duvan Zapata – Stayed at Atalanta, despite talk of a late loan move to NUFC
  • Todd Cantwell – Signed for Bournemouth on loan
  • Nat Phillips – Signed for Bournemouth on loan
  • Aaron Ramsey – Ended up signing for Rangers on deadline day
  • Mitchel Bakker – Left-back remained at Bayer Leverkusen as club failed to sign replacement
  • Christian Eriksen – Signed for Brentford on a free transfer
  • Sardar Azmoun – Zenit striker ended up at Bayer Leverkusen

NUFC players who failed to secure moves away:

  • Ciaran Clark – Rejected move to Middlesbrough
  • Jamal Lewis – Rejected loan offers from Stoke and Birmingham
  • Dwight Gayle – No striker signed on deadline day, so he stayed put
  • Sean Longstaff – Stayed on Tyneside despite reported interest from Everton and Nottingham Forest

  1. Actually I think that nufc did what they have could, great job on Jan signing. I think wood has proven himself to be strong alone since he have done it for years for burley but looks even more promising with the flanks that nufc have brought. What I really like was DM which nufc have purchase from Lyon. Sometime it was so unfair for the defender and stopper where midfielder open the gate and let defender chasing around. I believed with bruno around the defender will looks more confident and sound.

    Agree with lousy fullbacks and weak midfield any defence would struggle with 30% ish possession.
    However Clark had to go! his mistakes have really cost us this season.
