Newcastle release official statement – Huge blow as extent of Kieran Trippier injury is confirmed

Newcastle United have confirmed that Kieran Trippier is set for a spell on the sidelines after fracturing a bone in his foot.

The 31-year-old went for an X-ray at the RVI straight after being taken off in the 48th minute of yesterday’s 1-0 win over Aston Villa, and results show he has fractured the fifth metatarsal bone in his left foot.

This will leave him sidelined for ‘the club’s upcoming fixtures’ and could mean he’s missing until the start of April based on the expected recovery time for such injuries.

This is a huge blow given the influence he’s had at both ends of the field since his arrival – especially when there’s fears his likely replacement, Javier Manquillo, also limped off with suspected ankle ligament damage on Sunday.

Club statement via NUFC.co.uk – 14th February:

Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier is set to be sidelined for the club’s upcoming fixtures after fracturing a bone in his foot during Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Aston Villa.

The 31-year-old scored the game’s only goal at St. James’ Park to help the Magpies to a third successive Premier League win, but had to be substituted early in the second half after sustaining a foot injury.

Trippier underwent an X-ray immediately after the game and scans have shown a fracture to the fifth metatarsal bone in his left foot.

Everyone at the club wishes Kieran a speedy recovery.

The good news is that it’s not thought to be a season-ending injury (as per, Craig Hope at The Mail), however it will almost certainly see him miss upcoming games against West Ham, Brentford, Brighton and Chelsea, with postponed games against Everton and Southampton also likely to be played while he’s out.

A huge, huge blow, but I’m just thankful he was fit to fire us to two huge wins last week. Without those, we would’ve been in deep trouble!

Get well soon, Kieran.
