“He was gigantic” – Howe praises NUFC star, Mr Consistent & the signing he’s “very pleased” with

Eddie Howe has hailed Dan Burn following his superb display in Saturday’s win at St James’ Park, believing he put in a “gigantic” display against his former club, Brighton.

The 6ft 7′ defender was a towering presence throughout, but also showed his quality on the deck as he did brilliantly to block a goal bound effort from Gross just moments before the break.

Howe has also praised the “very consistent” Fabian Schar, feeling the centre-back duo were outstanding once again and protected “really well” by both Emil Krafth and Matt Targett.

Speaking of the Aston Villa loanee, the NUFC boss believes he has put in a strong defensive display in each and every one of his appearances since sealing a January move to Tyneside – saying “he knows the position inside and out.”

Here’s what Howe had to say about them all when speaking to NUFC TV after our 2-1 win over Brighton.

Howe on Dan Burn and Fabian Schar:

“Very good.

“Dan against his former club definitely deserves a word of praise.

“It was very difficult knowing everyone as well as he did and they know him the same.

“But I thought he gave a gigantic performance back there with Fabian[Schar], who has been very consistent, so I am very pleased with those two.

“Of course, they were also really well supported by the full-backs [Krafth and Targett].”

Howe on Matt Targett:

“I’m very pleased – he’s very consistent.

“Every game he has performed well defensively for the team.

“He knows the position inside and out.

Top performances from our back line.”
