As reported by 90min, Newcastle are showing serious interest in Joe Gomez; the Liverpool defender expected to push for a move this summer.
The 24-year-old has only made five appearances in the league so far – just one start – with the German manager preferring the likes of Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate to play alongside Virgil Van Dijk.
As a result, he’s said to be frustrated at his lack of games and will ask for a move away from Merseyside in order to get playing time ahead of the 2022 World Cup.
90min claim that several Premier League clubs have shown interest, but it’s Newcastle who are said to be showing the ‘biggest interest’ along with Leicester, Tottenham and West Ham.
Gomez has already made 11 appearances for England and was first choice for Liverpool before a serious knee injury ruled him out of the Euro 2020 tournament.
Since his return from the injury, he’s not only failed to nail down a place in Klopp’s first team but wasn’t even named in the squad for their Carabao Cup win over Chelsea, with him now the club’s fourth choice centre-back.
While the defender is desperate for first-team football, he still has another two years left on his contract and any potential suitors will be required to pay a substantial fee.
Good player, but he’s had his injuries as well mind.
