Jamie Redknapp makes Bruno Guimaraes prediction & nails it when asked about Eddie Howe

Jamie Redknapp believes Bruno Guimaraes is “going to be a star” in the Premier League and a “fans favourite” on Tyneside, saying our £35m has a “little bit of everything.”

The Sky Sports pundit has also spoken highly of Eddie Howe, insisting our turnaround is down to good coaching and his ability to get the best out of his squad – not just the boost we’ve received from January signings; who haven’t always played (Trippier and Guimaraes) as he rightly points out.

This is bang on from Redknapp, with the likes of Joelinton, Fraser, Schar, Shelvey and Willock all upping their game considerably since the 44-year-old came in.

As for Guimaraes, he also feels his initial spell of watching on from the bench has allowed him to take in the pace of Premier League football; a luxury not many new signings are handed when first arriving in England.

Speaking on Sky Sports, here’s what the former Spurs midfielder had to say when asked about the job Eddie Howe is doing and his first impressions of Bruno Guimaraes:

“It’s a bit of both [coaching and new signings].

“Trippier started well and then picked up an injury.

“The players he [Howe] has brought in have certainly made a difference, but Guimaraes has been one of their most expensive signings, yet he’s barely even played.

“So it hasn’t always been about the players [signed in January]

“Chris Wood has come in and given them a focal point.

“But this guy [Bruno] is going to be a star, make no mistake.

“It might have suited him…the fact that because the team was doing so well, he’s able to watch from the bench.

“Because when it comes to the Premier League, we’ve seen in the past, not everyone hits the ground running.

“But he’s got a good eye for it, he had five, six, seven games to watch [from the bench] and he’s going to be a fans favourite, make no mistake.

“He’s so talented, he can do a bit of everything and even when he came on as a sub in cameos he looked fantastic.

“So he’s a good signing for them.

“But you have got to credit Eddie Howe – he’s done a brilliant job with a lot of the players he already had there.”

After a goal at Southampton and impressive display last Sunday, let’s hope Guimaraes can show us just how good he is at Goodison Park tonight!

  1. Aye – holds the ball well, controls the tempo of the game and has a decent pass on him.
Give him a couple more games he’ll be as good as Shelvey.
