NUFC official spotted watching £67m man in Champions League quarter final – Report

A Newcastle United representative was in the stands to watch Darwin Nunez in Benfica’s Champions League clash with Liverpool on Tuesday night, according to The Express.

The in-form striker scored his 28th of the season in the quarter final tie in Lisbon, which ended 3-1 to Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The Express’ Ryan Taylor claims that Newcastle were not the only Premier League side present to witness yet another eye-catching display from the 22-year-old, as officials from West Ham, Man Utd, Arsenal, Man City and Tottenham also had scouts watching on in Portugal.

After becoming the top scoring striker in Europe under the age of 23 and attracting interest from a host of huge clubs, the report claims that Benfica will now demand £67m for his services this summer.

Taylor claims that Newcastle haven’t given up hope of bringing him to Tyneside, but warns that huge money and club-record fee will be needed to tempt him – and even that may not be enough given we couldn’t offer Champions League football.

Nunez would be an incredible signing and the sort of star striker who could help take us to the next level, however it feels like he might be out of our reach after yet another impressive display on the Champions League stage.

  1. You generally have to take these things with a pinch of salt, especially when they make a vague “representative” claim.
Don’t these representatives actually have names, or do they just have a typical Newcastle United representative look about them?
