Remember Henry Mauriss? Well, according to The Athletic, the former would-be buyer of Newcastle United has launched a £115m takeover bid at Sheffield United.
The American was linked with a takeover on Tyneside two years ago, with The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards reporting on his sudden interest back in 2020.
The Athletic have also commented on this, stating that he entered a period of exclusivity after lodging a £350 million bid.
However, they state that former owner Mike Ashley was left ‘baffled’ by the slow pace of his takeover bid and ended up walking away from talks – and it’s just as well now we’ve hit the jackpot!
Back to the present day, Mauriss is now bidding to take over at Bramall Lane, with the Championship club currently owned by Saudi Arabia’s Prince Abdullah bin Mosaad bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud.
The EFL are believed to be reviewing his bid as we speak, as all offers are subject to the EFL owners’ and directors’ test.
