Newcastle United offer four-year deal to midfielder – The Times

As reported by The Times, Newcastle are set to offer midfielder Sean Longstaff a new four-year contract as he enters the final few months of his current deal.

For a while now manager Eddie Howe has been adamant that the club will look to extend the 24-year-old’s contract with the boss previously claiming he ‘would love him to stay.’

This decision to extend his stay at the club may confuse or worry some fans following the Englishman’s underwhelming last few seasons and how difficult he has found it to break into the team – starting just four times since Howe took charge.

However, while many supporters may like to see a thorough culling of the current squad and a whole new starting 11 brought in in the summer, it was never going to be that simple and Longstaff – while limited in ability – may still have a role to play from the bench.

The academy product will also help to fulfil squad registration rules due to his home grown status and although we don’t expect to see too much of him next year, it’s always good to have someone who loves and understands the club in and amongst the team.

  1. To be fair if we can get him back to the player when he first burst into the first team before his injury got a good player personally think the injury has knackered him mentally thou
