Newcastle set to battle European giants for 6ft 7′ Bundesliga striker – Report

Newcastle will face stiff competition from the likes of Bayern Munich, Benfica and Paris Saint Germain for the signing of Stuttgart forward Sasa Kalajdzic, according to German outlet Kicker.

At 6ft 7, the Austrian would offer a similar role to that of Chris Wood – holding up the ball, heading it on to others, and being an aerial threat for set-pieces.

However, Kalajdzic is deceptively quick – a big criticism of Wood’s abilities – and will often drop between the lines of the defence to bring others in to play.

The 24-year-old has been considered as a replacement for the outgoing Robert Lewandowski at Bayern, but the Stuttgart chairman has revealed the two clubs are yet to make contact.

Due to a shoulder injury that kept him out of action until January, the towering striker has only appeared 15 times in the league for his German side, but has scored five in his last nine games.

With rumours building of our interest in Reim’s Hugo Ekitike, the signing of both strikers would inject a huge burst of energy into the forward line and – as both are over six foot – creates a duo that defenders would struggle to contain.

  1. Sounds like a great option- we need 2 strikers – Wilson needs to be used sparingly as he’s lucky to get 15 games a season
