Dan Ashworth pushing for exciting double deal as new arrival gets to work on transfers – Reports

Dan Ashworth is finally in position at St James’ Park and it looks like our new director of football is hoping to have an immediate impact on the transfer front.

According to The Times, he will ‘lead the chase’ for top defensive target Sven Botman, with Newcastle officials still ‘confident’ they can persuade the centre-back to pick St James’ Park over the San Siro following serious interest from AC Milan.

Martin Hardy (Times) reports that the player is expected to make a decision on his future after Holland’s UEFA Nations League clash with Wales next week, as the towering defender is keen to make a move in good time for pre-season training – whether that’s in England or in Italy.

The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards also reveals that Ashworth’s arrival should accelerate a deal for Reims star Hugo Ekitike.

We’re believed to have agreed a fee for the 19-year-old Frenchman, however it was reported yesterday that an issue with agent fees threatened to delay his arrival on Tyneside.

However, Edwards reckons our new sporting director could play a key role in getting these issues ironed out, reporting that we’ll soon turn our full attention to Botman – or Nathan Ake if his fellow countryman ends up opting for AC Milan – if and when the Ekitike deal is done and dusted.

  1. It seems botman taking the pee. Please tell him to sod off and stop fawning to him and show some pride as your only feeding the anti NUFC press to take the Mickey. As for the youngster do we really need him as its apparent he will turn his nose up to living in the NE. Go for players who would take great pride in our shirt.
