Free agent offered ‘€4m per year’ to sign for Newcastle United this summer – Report

According to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, Newcastle have shown serious interest out of contract defender Alessio Romagnoli and are prepared to pay him ‘€4million per year’ ahead of his release at AC Milan.

The 27-year-old made 19 league appearances as I Rossoneri won their first Scudetto in eleven years, but discussions over a new contract were unsuccessful and both sides came to an agreement that he’d leave on a free this summer.

There are also rumours linking the Italian international with a move to Aston Villa – no surprises there – as well as fellow Serie A side Lazio, who were once considered the favourites to sign the former Roma centre-back.

The Italian paper claim he is very ‘tempted’ by a move to the Premier League with both Aston Villa and Newcastle offering a lot more than what Lazio are prepared to pay – their last offer only went up to a reported €2.8million a year.

As an experienced international defender, Romagnoli could be a shrewd signing on a free transfer, however it remains to be seen if we’ll be in the market for another centre-back now we’ve finally struck a deal for Sven Botman.

  1. I always felt that he would be a great alternative to Botman, but he’s another left footer. I’d rather take Demiral about £25m
