Five Players We Might See Join Newcastle Before the 2022/2023 EPL Season

After the major takeover last year, we’ve seen a more stable Newcastle United side, and as the transfer window is open, we expect to see more players join the team as they are looking to solidify their position in the league. Before the takeover, Newcastle was locked in a relegation battle where it seemed they would have to battle to the end of the season.

The team was part of the top predictions to be relegated before the start of the season. They were like the teams in the Ally 400 predictions that bookies expected to fight at the back of the grid. It didn’t even look good after the takeover was completed as they struggled to win games.

However, thanks to the January transfer window and Eddie Howe joining the team, Newcastle was stabilized, and the team could rise up the league standings. At the end of the season, the team finished 11th, showing how formidable the team can be once they can get high-quality players delivering on a consistent basis.

As many targets are available this season, we don’t expect the management to go for every major signing. Therefore, we expect to see only a few marquee signings; in that case, we believe these five players will likely join the team over the summer.

Sven Botman

Sven Botman is undoubtedly one of Newcastle’s top targets. The club were keen on making a move in January, but eventually decided to wait until the summer to make a formal approach. The team is looking to solidify their defence by adding the Dutch center-back to the team. The Lille player is happy with a move to Tyneside. However, there have been a few bumps in the road.

However, the Magpies are likely to face competition to sign the Dutchman, as Serie A champions AC Milan are also interested. Botman is yet to commit his future to any club, but regular football at St James’ Park could be a deciding factor.

Hugo Ekitike

Another top target for the team from France is Hugo Etitike. His transfer is looking like it will be completed any day now as both teams are seemingly happy with the current deal of £25 million offered by Newcastle United.

Therefore, we will likely see the Reims striker wear the black and white stripes next season, adding a natural goalscorer to the forward line. Newcastle has struggled at the top of the pitch for the past couple of seasons, and the consistent injuries for Callum Wilson ensured that this was a key piece of business that Howe wanted to be completed very early in the summer.

Dean Henderson

Dean Henderson hasn’t gotten as much game time with the Red Devils as he would have hoped since returning from his loan move at Sheffield United. With David De Gea among the most solid performers at Old Trafford, it would seem unlikely that Henderson will be breaking into the United eleven any time soon.

In that case, Manchester United might want to cash in on the youngster with teams still interested in signing him. Therefore, a push from Newcastle might see him move to the team to join the rebuild. We might also see Darlow go the other way in a swap deal situation.

Victor Osimhen

One of the top strikers in Europe today is Victor Osimhen, who has been on the radar of many top teams since his playing days at Lille. Osimhen has been a target for many Premier League teams, including Arsenal. However, his price tag of £85 million has been throwing many teams off, especially the Gunners, who remain in the market for a forward.

However, with the big money at Newcastle now, they can afford to go for this top striker. It could be a signing that puts them on the brink of challenging for a European place next season. We expect the team to make a big-money move this summer, and the Nigerian is certainly at the top of their wishlist.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Dominic Calvet-Lewin is a possible backup option for the team, especially if they can’t get Hugo Ekitike. Therefore, we might see the English striker move from Merseyside to Newcastle, and we expect it to be a big-money move. However, there haven’t been any official bids, and it might only be a rumor, given that Newcastle’s eyes are locked on their number one target- Ekitike.

  1. Although this article is dated 25 June 2022 I really wonder when it was actually written as most of the information regarding these players is way out of date.

There is no point writing a NEWS article if your information is old and superceded by more up to dat happenings.
