Newcastle miss out on summer target as player agrees to join Man Utd – The Athletic

It looks like Christian Eriksen won’t be arriving at Newcastle United this summer.

As revealed by The Athletic’s David Ornstein, the Dane has now ‘verbally agreed’ to join Manchester United, ending our hopes of bringing him to St James’ Park.

The 30-year-old became a free agent last week after his six-month contract at Brentford expired, however he’s now set to sign a three-year deal at Old Trafford after agreeing to accept their proposal.

Newcastle World revealed a few days ago that we were still in talks with the player’s representatives over the possibility of bringing him to the club, but it seems his mind is now made up after spending the past few weeks considering all offers on the table.

Some had suggested that he was keen to remain in London or secure Champions League football if he was to move elsewhere, so it’s interesting to see him join Manchester United.

So, one to scratch off the list for Eddie Howe and Dan Ashworth, but a positive sign that we were attempting to bring such a quality player to the club.
