Newcastle sanction another loan move after defender returns for pre-season training – Report

According to The Northern Echo, Newcastle have agreed to loan out Kell Watts once again following his return from a successful spell at Wigan.

Last season, the Alnwick-born player made 35 league appearances for the Latics and was a key member in their push for promotion back to the Championship.

The 6ft 4′ centre-back has been spotted training with the senior side following the resumption of pre-season training, but it seems Wigan are considering a move to bring him back DW stadium for 2022/23.

At 22-years-old, Watts is no longer a youngster and will need to kick on soon to have a future on Tyneside, but a season in the second tier could be a good test of where he’s at after landing a new two-year deal at Newcastle earlier this year.

With the arrival of Dutch defender Sven Botman, it is now very unlikely that the academy graduate will be part of Eddie Howe’s Premier League plans – no matter how much he impresses over pre-season.

So, another loan move could make sense for all parties, allowing us to decide whether to cash in next summer or keep him around should he impress in the Championship.
