NUFC reporter claims move for England talent is “one to watch” after player rejects new deal

According to The Mail’s Craig Hope, Newcastle United are keeping an eye on Aston Villa’s Carney Chukwuemeka after the young star refused to sign a new contract.

He claims that the 18-year-old midfielder is “one to watch”, revealing that he was discussed during transfer talks earlier this summer.

Chukwuemeka made 12 appearances in the Premier League for Villa last season and is a key player for England’s U19s, scoring twice in the European Championship final to secure victory against Israel.

These rumours come after 90min said we’d joined the race for his signature earlier this week, so it’s interesting to see one of the region’s most reliable reporters back up those claims.

As a result of the youth international refusing to a sign a new deal, Chukwuemeka has been left out of Steven Gerrard’s pre-season squad, leaving many to believe he’ll be moved on this summer.

While a midfielder may not be top of our priority list of signings, it would be difficult to turn down the opportunity to sign the Austrian-born wonderkid who has a bright future ahead of him.
