It looks like Newcastle United’s latest bid for James Maddison has been rejected by Leicester City.
Sky Sports have revealed that the Foxes have turned down our second offer for the 25-year-old – who they value around the £60m mark – leaving the club’s new owners with a decision to make.
Keith Downie claims that we are now considering whether to continue our pursuit – which presumably means launching a third bid – or to ‘move on to other target.’
Newcastle appear hugely reluctant to overpay due to financial fair play regulations, however, it seems clear that Leicester want considerably more than the £40m offered so far.
Sky Sports believe it would take ‘around £60m’ to prise the England international away from the King Power Stadium, yet our second offer for the attacker appears to have fallen at least £15m short of that figure.
Hopefully a compromise can be reached and the player pushes for the move, meanwhile Leicester’s alleged interest in Martin Dubravka may also be something we use to our advantage now Kasper Schmeichel looks set to leave for Nice.
A bit too much dithering when going for targets, business so far has been shrewd, however forward positions are a different proposition to defensive ones and require boldness and money.
