Pope starts and Botman on the bench – Official Newcastle team to face Nottingham Forest

The new season is back at St James’ Park and the teams have just been released ahead of today’s opening day clash with Nottingham Forest!

Here’s the side Eddie Howe has gone with against the newly-promoted Reds:

STARTING XI: Pope, Trippier, Schar, Burn, Targett, Bruno, Willock, Joelinton, Almiron, Wilson, Saint-Maximin.

SUBS: Dubravka, Botman, Lascelles, S Longstaff, Ritchie, Anderson, Fraser, Murphy, Wood.

So, Pope makes his Premier League debut for the club, but there’s no Sven Botman in the starting 11.

The Dutchman is on the bench alongside Elliot Anderson, with Joe Willock preferred to Sean Longstaff in midfield.

Jonjo Shelvey (hamstring) misses out as expected, with Jamal Lewis, Federico Fernandez and Javier Manquillo also absent after missing the majority of our pre-season programme.

Here’s the Forest side Steve Cooper has selected, seeing Lingard start alongside former Mag Jack Colback.
