Newcastle respond to Bruno Guimaraes rumours after contact from Real Madrid – ESPN Brasil

This afternoon, Spanish outlet AS revealed that Real Madrid had identified Bruno Guimaraes as their top target should Casemiro complete a late move to Manchester United.

They claimed the 24-year-old is currently ‘first on the list’ for the Champions League holders, adding that Newcastle would demand over €100m for the midfielder.

However, ESPN Brasil have provided another update on Bruno in the last few moments, insisting that Newcastle United have no intention of selling the South American star.

ESPN journalist Gustavo Hofman does reveal that the midfielder’s agent has ‘already been contacted’ by the La Liga giants, but it seems he’ll be going nowhere this summer as far as we’re concerned.

Bruno only arrived in January, joining from Lyon in a deal worth a reported £40m. Since then, he’s performed incredibly and shown to be heavily invested in the project we are building at St James’ Park, admitting at one stage that it was a ‘dream’ to be in the Premier League.

We’ll have a fight on our hands to keep him if he keeps playing as he has done and enjoys a good World Cup, but we are not the selling club that we have been for the last two decades.

  1. I don’t expect the board to go crazy in the current market especially with FFP and these bloated prices to consider. But they will have to pull something off to keep the squad feeling that momentum continues to build (quickly) to challenge for a spot in Europe or we will have to worry that giants like RM and others will come sniff around looking to lure our best players away.

The striker and winger prices are crazy right now so play the transfer market and take the (bargain) upgrades you can get at the moment. Do we need Paqueta right now more than a wing/striker? No. But he would be a bargain at 33M, if that’s correct, and would still be a massive upgrade in MF. Bonus to keep Bruno planted here and happy. They shouldn’t force a buy just because it’s a position of need especially if we are already way down the list of our top targets.

Time to look at temporary forward options in the loan market and go back to the drawing board in January for a permanent striker/wing. Ideal? No. Pragmatic? Yes.
