Watford respond to Newcastle’s £25m bid for João Pedro – The Athletic

According to The Athletic, Newcastle’s second bid for Watford’s Joao Pedro – thought to be £22m plus £3m in add-ons – has been rejected by the Championship side.

Our interest in the Brazilian first emerged on Monday, where we saw an initial bid worth £20m rebuffed. Since then, Hornets boss Rob Edwards has discussed his desire to keep the forward at Vicarage Road, however that hasn’t deterred us so far.

While our second offer has also been turned down, he certainly feels like an Eddie Howe player and an ideal alternative to Hugo Ekitike, as a young, versatile and hugely promising attacker who could grow with the club.

If we are serious in our bid to sign the 20-year-old, it seems we may have to meet Watford’s £30m valuation of the forward – although it is unclear at this moment whether we will go back in with a third offer.

Let’s hope we can make it third time lucky in the coming days and get the South American signed up at St James’ Park, with the transfer window set to slam shut in exactly two weeks time!
