Early team news: 2 ruled out, 3 doubts and 3 in contention to return for Man City clash?

Eddie Howe has revealed that he’ll be forced to make a “very late decision” on Matt Targett ahead of Sunday’s clash with Man City.

The full-back missed last weekend’s 0-0 draw at Brighton after suffering a dead leg, meaning Dan Burn filled in down the left against his former club.

Elsewhere, Howe confirmed that Ryan Fraser has trained this week and should return after overcoming a ‘back spasm’ he encountered late last week.

Jonjo Shelvey (hamstring) and Kell Watts (knee) remain out with long-term injuries following surgery, while Federico Fernandez and Emil Krafth join Matt Targett as early doubts after neither featured in the latest set of training photos.

On the plus side, Jamal Lewis and Javier Manquillo have had another week of training, meaning they – like Ryan Fraser – appear to be back in contention for Sunday’s game.

Here’s what Eddie told the press this morning when asked for an update on Fraser and Targett:

“Ryan Fraser we hope will be fit and available.

“He had a back spasm late last week so he was a late withdrawal from the Brighton game.

“But he has trained this week.

“Matt Targett we’ll make a very late decision on.”
