It looks like new signing Jude Smith has made an eye-catching start to life on Tyneside.
Just a week after joining the club’s Academy from East Fife, the 19-year-old talent was called up to first-team training by Eddie Howe, being spotted with our seniors in the latest set of photos from Benton.
The former Celtic goalkeeper signed a two-year contract at St James’ Park last Friday, becoming our fourth new addition at U21 level.
On the subject of fellow summer arrivals, Irish defender Alex Murphy has received big praise from The Mail’s Craig Hope, who was “very impressed” by the left-footed centre-back.
The North-East reporter praised his size, “lovely left-foot” and pace, revealing how the former Galway United star showed shades of £32m man Sven Botman,
Here’s what Hope had to say about the 18-year-old, followed by a photo of Jude Smith in first-team training:
“Watched Newcastle’s U21s lose 1-0 to Stoke tonight. Went down to 9 men in the 2nd half but nearly nicked a draw.
“Very impressed with new Irish centre-back Alex Murphy (18). Good size, lovely left foot and quick. Has a bit of Sven Botman about him in shape and gait.”
