Newcastle sanction loan exit but £60,000 wages could cause problems after talks – Alan Nixon

According to Alan Nixon, Stoke City are trying to sign Federico Fernandez on a season-long loan.

The report states that Eddie Howe is prepared to let the Argentine leave for the remainder of 2022/23, having fallen behind Sven Botman, Dan Burn, Fabian Schar, Jamaal Lascelles and Paul Dummett in the pecking order.

However, the senior writer at The Sun claims that the Potters are currently finding out how much of the defender’s £60,000-per-week wages they would need to pay.

This has often been a problem in our attempts to offload fringe players in recent years, as we have several squad receiving interest from second tier sides unable to afford Premier League wages.

Should Fernandez leave for the Bet365 Stadium, he would join former Mag Dwight Gayle at Stoke and become the sixth senior player to leave this summer after Isaac Hayden (Norwich), Jeff Hendrick (Reading), Freddie Woodman (Preston) and Ciaran Clark (Sheffield United).

He would also be working under Alex Neil – the Sunderland boss who looks all set to take the Potters job.
