Eddie Howe reacts to Saint-Maximin equaliser and gives injury update on Toon stars

Speaking after our 1-1 draw with Wolves, Eddie Howe has described Allan Saint Maximin’s equaliser as an ‘incredible finish’ while he believes Callum Wilson’s injury is ‘not too bad’ and is ‘hopeful’ that Bruno will only miss a couple of games.

From the starting whistle, it was clear that we were missing the quality of Bruno in the midfield, but it is expected that his injury is only ‘slight’ and will return to the lineup in the coming weeks.

Despite our poor finishing throughout the game, the 44-year-old was delighted to maintain our unbeaten start to the season and claimed that ‘the players gave everything’ to secure that point.

On the game as a whole, Howe said: “There’s a massive importance to every game. We were determined to keep our unbeaten start going. The players gave everything – and never gave up. It was a great goal from Allan at the end.

“We chased the game very well, Wolves are a genuine counter-attacking threat, we had to control that and we were very effective in the second half. Eventually that paid off and I thought we deserved it.”

Howe had ‘mixed emotions’ with the disappointment of the first half and the elation of scoring a last minute equaliser and believes that ‘we should’ve won the game’

On the second half improvements, Howe said: “I think we had better decision making. We controlled the game with the ball. I think we made better decisions around their box, we were too hasty to get the ball into the box in the first half. But we were never beaten today, so full credit to the players.”

Record signing Alexander Isak was unable to make the squad due to a work permit issue, but was at the stadium to watch the game and Howe admitted he would be ‘hugely disappointed’ if his £63m man was unable to make the game against Liverpool.

With the game at Anfield just three days away, it is very likely that we see a similar starting lineup with limited options from the bench – so here’s hoping the lads remain focused on securing another result.

  2. Being an EU citizen of African descent we can be sure Isak will enjoy Priti Patel’s hospitality in the form of the Home Office hostile environment policy.
He could probably still take part in any friendlies with venues in Rwanda?

  4. @ Darren Bebb
Well, he’s a footballer who per expedited but pretty standard protocols should have been on our bench today, giving the team a lift and potentially coming on to give the Wolves defenders something to think about. So why wasn’t he?
Why is the Home Office dragging its feet? Demanding notarized copies of his parent’s Eritrean marriage certificate?
Do you think that happened with Nordic Übermensch Harland or super-celeb Ronaldo?

  5. inpt1 just my thoughts this is a football site not a political site to much politics gets in the way fans will agree and disagree over players and what happened in the game so let’s keep it football and have a healthy debate over what happens on the pitch and transfer rumours

Without Brexit he would have played today.
We know there is an agenda
If people want to discuss the involvement of politics in football surely that is a valid debate

Sports, Life, Politics are all inter-twined son, you may wish they are not but then one day you will not comprehend why your isolated world is not what you hoped.
Things like Hillsborough, the Superleague, Denial then reversal of the PIF buying NUFC. These things and many more will be a mystery to you; out of your control like the weather. I get it, you don’t want to have to think about how you are being pulled and kicked around but LEAVE ME BE if I do and I express my opinion, or at least engage in some form of actual debate?
