Newcastle join race to sign Wolves midfielder ahead of Thursday’s 11pm deadline – Report

A new name has been linked with a late move to St James’ Park today as we edge closer to Thursday’s 11pm deadline.

According to Football Insider, Newcastle are now eyeing Wolves Leander Dendoncker, with the report claiming that we registered our interest in the 27-year-old late last night.

The Belgian has been heavily linked with Everton over the past 24 hours. The Athletic revealed on Monday that the Toffees had an £8m rejected by Wolves, while Sky Sports have confirmed this morning that Frank Lampard is looking to bring the former Anderlecht star to Goodison Park.

However, Football Insider claim we have joined the race and could hijack his potential move to Merseyside, with Eddie Howe looking for another holding midfielder after Jonjo Shelvey was ruled out until December.

Dendoncker has recently dropped out of Bruno Lage’s first team plans, playing just one minute of Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Molineux.

He made 34 appearances in all competitions last season, however, and has 29 caps for his country, being a versatile player who can operate in midfield or at centre-back.
