Player now ‘keen’ to join Newcastle United after deadline day talks – The Times

According to The Times, West Ham’s Harrison Ashby is keen to seal a deadline day move to Newcastle United.

This comes from North-East reporter Martin Hardy, who’s been told the 20-year-old right-back would like to complete a move to St James’ Park before tonight’s 11pm cut-off.

He confirms that talks are ‘ongoing’ between Newcastle and West Ham, stating that the Hammers want to bring in another defender before they agree to let the Scotland U21 international leave.

Ashby is out of contract next summer and could be available for a fee in the region of £2m as a result, meaning this could be their last chance to cash in on the highly-rated full-back.

It’s thought he would be part of Eddie Howe’s first-team squad should we seal a deal, with the club eyeing additional cover after Emil Krafth is expected to miss the next six to nine months with an ACL injury.

Ashby started in West Ham’s 3-1 win over Viborg in the first leg of their Europa Conference League qualifier, making his Premier League debut last December in 2-0 defeat to Arsenal.
