NUFC flop linked with late move to Sunderland after contract termination on deadline day

Danny Rose’s career has been on the decline for a few years now – and that trend could be set to continue based on the latest reports emerging on deadline day.

According to Sky Sports reporter Aden-Jay Wood, Sunderland are one of several clubs who are showing interest in signing the former Newcastle United loanee.

The 32-year-old had his contract terminated at Watford earlier today after a disappointing spell at Vicarage Road saw him play just eight times during their relegation season last term.

Rose spent the 2012/12 season on loan at Sunderland, performing well at the Stadium of Light before returning to Tottenham for the next seven years.

He was then snapped up by Steve Bruce in January 2020, but looked way past his best during six-month loan stint on Tyneside, failing to make any sort of impact alongside fellow loanees Nabil Bentaleb and Valentino Lazaro.

Two and a half years later, he’s a free agent and may be on his way back to Wearside, with the Championship club showing interest in the former England international.
