Newcastle receive surprise deadline day offers for Chris Wood – Report

As reported by The Mail’s Craig Hope, Newcastle have ‘rejected several enquiries’ for striker Chris Wood with the club not wanting to lose any of their attacking options in this window.

Championship side Watford were among those who came forward for the Kiwi, as well as a number of unnamed Premier League clubs, but the 30-year-old looks set to stay on Tyneside.

With Newcastle being heavily interested in Watford forward Joao Pedro, there may have been suggestions of a swap deal for the two strikers – with a fee also included – but ultimately the club didn’t want to lose their 6ft 3 man.

Wood, who signed from Burnley back in January for around £25m, is likely to be third choice following the signing of Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad for a record fee of £63m.

But with Callum Wilson’s injury record, Wood is expected to feature throughout the season and have a big role to play coming off the bench as well as allowing us to change our style of play when necessary.
