Wolves considering shock move for ex-NUFC striker as Diego Costa deal stalls – The Telegraph

According to The Telegraph, Wolves are considering a shock move for Andy Carroll after a deal for Diego Costa has been plunged into doubt.

The Brazilian was expected to sign at Molineux this week, with a medical scheduled for Wednesday, however the 33-year-old has not been granted a work permit.

Wolves are now appealing that decision, but The Telegraph’s John Percy has revealed that Andy Carroll is now a back-up option under serious consideration should Costa be denied international clearance.

Carroll is a free agent after leaving Steve Bruce’s West Brom at the end of the 2021/22 season in a spell that saw him score just three times in 15 appearances for the Baggies.

This comes after Wolves’ £15m signing Sasa Kaladjzic sustained a cruciate ligament injury during Saturday’s win over Southampton – a cruel blow for the giant Austrian and one that leaves Bruno Lage with just one recognised striker in Raul Jimenez.

A move for Carroll, 33, is unlikely to go down well, but beggars can’t be choosers at this stage of the season, with free agents the only option until January now the transfer window has closed.
