Newcastle set for European boost ahead of West Ham clash – Advantage Eddie Howe?

We may still be missing a couple of key players, but it could be the perfect time to play West Ham this weekend.

The Hammers began their Europa Conference League campaign last night against Romanian side FCSB, giving them a busy few days and less time to prepare for the visit of Eddie Howe’s high-intensity Mags this Sunday.

David Moyes’ side sit 18th after losing four of their opening six Premier League games this season, making it far from ideal that they’ll be in European action just 64 hours before we kick-off at the London Stadium.

He’s also named a strong side, seeing first-team stars Declan Rice, Jarrod Bowen, Michail Antonio, Pablo Fornals, Gianluca Scamacca, Said Benrahma, Vladimir Coufal, Emerson Palmieri, Maxwel Cornet and Thilo Kehrer all feature in a 3-1 win that required a late comeback after FCSB went in 1-0 up at the break.

It remains to be seen if we will be able to welcome back any of Bruno Guimaraes, Allan Saint-Maximin or Callum Wilson – three players who could terrorise a potentially tired West Ham – but we should be the fresher of the two sides this weekend and in a position to have a real go, should the game go ahead following the Queen’s passing.
