Newcastle United release official statement after the Premier League postpone 10 fixtures

The Premier League have announced that all fixtures due to be played this weekend have been postponed following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Newcastle have confirmed that our proposed trip to West Ham this Sunday will now be rearranged for another date.

Next Saturday’s clash with Bournemouth at St James’ Park is also in doubt, with a decision on that fixture set to be made ‘in due course’ as the Royal Family make plans for the Queen’s funeral – which could take place on Monday 19th September.

Fans who have bought tickets for Sunday’s postponed trip to the London Stadium will be able to use those for the rearranged fixture, although it may not be that simple for those who had booked hotels, travel and days off work ahead of this weekend’s game.

Here’s statement released by both Newcastle United and the Premier League’s Richard Masters over the last few moments:

Official Newcastle United statement, Friday 9th September:

Newcastle United’s Premier League match at West Ham United this weekend has been postponed alongside all other English football fixtures following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The club joins the country in observing a period of national mourning.

The Magpies were scheduled to travel to the London Stadium for a 2pm kick-off this Sunday, however a new date will be set in due course.

A decision on Newcastle United’s home Premier League fixture against AFC Bournemouth at 3pm on Saturday, 17th September will be made in due course.

Supporters should retain their existing tickets for the trip to West Ham as they will remain valid for the rearranged fixture.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United Under-21s’ fixture at Aston Villa on Friday evening has been postponed.

Official Premier League statement, Friday September 9th:

At a meeting this morning, Premier League clubs paid tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. To honour her extraordinary life and contribution to the nation, and as a mark of respect, this weekend’s Premier League match round will be postponed, including Monday evening’s game.
