Two players axed by Eddie Howe as Newcastle United confirm 25-man squad – Official

Emil Krafth and Mark Gillespie have been left out of Newcastle United’s 25-man squad for the first half of the 2022/23 season.

Krafth could be missing for the remainder of the season after suffering a devastating ACL injury in last month’s Carabao Cup win over Tranmere, while Gillespie has been axed following the arrival of Loris Karius; who will act as cover for Nick Pope in Karl Darlow’s absence.

Darlow is named in the squad alongside Jonjo Shelvey, with both tipped to return from injuries once Premier League football resumes in December following the World Cup.

Elliot Anderson is not named in the 25, however he – alongside any other players under the age of 21 – can still feature without being named in the official squad list.
