Yesterday, it was revealed that Alexander Isak had been forced to train away from the Sweden squad after a “little feeling” in an unspecified muscle.
Not the news we wanted to hear following his departure for the international break, however it seems things may have taken a turn for the worse.
The Mail’s Craig Hope has now confirmed that our £60m has been ruled out of their upcoming games against Serbia and Slovenia, with him set to leave their training camp and return to Tyneside.
We don’t know yet if this is a precautionary move Newcastle United have insisted on, but it doesn’t look great less than 10 days before our trip to Fulham next Saturday.
The fact he felt something in training earlier this week, trained away from the group and has now been forced to withdraw suggests he’s suffered an injury – the last thing we wanted to read about our new club record signing.
We wait for more updates on the severity of his issue, but all eyes will turn to Callum Wilson’s fitness if Isak is ruled out of next weekend’s trip to the capital. Here’s what the player’s had to say since his withdrawal earlier today:
“It feels very sad to have to leave the team. I had longed to play in the blue and yellow shirt again. I wish the boys the best of luck on Saturday and Tuesday.”
We can’t catch a break with injuries right now, every injury is to an attacking or creative player.
