Toon suffer third injury of the international break and striker shines on debut ahead of NUFC move

It’s not been the best of weeks for Newcastle United, as yet another Mag has suffered an injury on international duty.

After Alexander Isak pulled out of the Sweden squad on Thursday and Bruno Guimaraes picked up a thigh problem in training with Brazil, Chris Wood was forced off in New Zealand’s 2-0 defeat to Australia in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The Kiwi came off in the 32nd minute, being unable to continue following a heavy challenge midway through the first half. It’s hoped the injury isn’t too serious, as he was out at half-time taking photos with fans, but it’s yet another concern for Eddie Howe.

In better news, Garang Kuol – the Aussie wonderkid expected to complete a move to Newcastle United in January – shone on his international debut, making a huge impact off the bench in Australia’s 2-0 win.

The 18-year-old’s pace caused havoc on the break, with him not only setting up one big chance after some great play down the right (see the video below), but also playing a key role in winning the penalty that rounded off the scoring.
