Newcastle set to launch January bid for £60m man as talks continue with player’s camp – Report

According to fresh reports this weekend, Newcastle United will submit a new improved bid for James Maddison in January.

This comes from Football Insider, who reveal that we have remained in discussions with the player’s representatives since having two bids rejected by Leicester City over the summer.

The Foxes are believed to value Maddison around the £60m mark, which could explain why our offer worth £45-50m was quickly turned down last month.

That said, Newcastle chiefs believe the attacking midfielder’s value will drop slightly this winter, as he’ll be entering the final 18 months of his contract at the King Power Stadium should no new deal be signed between now and January.

Eddie Howe is said to be a “huge admirer” of the 25-year-old, and it’s easy to see why. Maddison could offer the sort of quality we’ve been lacking in the final third, having started the new season with three goals and one assist for a struggling Leicester side.

This comes after he bagged an outstanding 18 goals and 12 assists in all competitions last season, highlighting his ability to deliver the sort of big numbers our current midfield options struggle to produce.
