Another Premier League manager sacked six weeks on from Newcastle United draw

The third casualty of the new Premier League season was confirmed on Sunday evening, as Wolves sacked Bruno Lage following their dismal start to the campaign.

After Scott Parker was given the boot by Bournemouth and Thomas Tuchel dismissed by Chelsea last month, the former Benfica boss is the latest to go after their 2-0 defeat at West Ham on Saturday left Wolves in the bottom three.

Lage saw his former side draw 1-1 with Newcastle at Molineux six weeks ago, with a late stunner from Allan Saint-Maximin denying the hosts what would’ve been their one and only win of the season.

Since then, they’ve blanked in three of their last four games, failing to beat Bournemouth and barely laying a glove on an under par West Ham who didn’t have to get out of second gear to beat them on Saturday.

As for Lage’s potential replacement, Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim is the early 7/4 favourite, with Sevilla boss Julien Lopetegui currently behind him at 4/1.
