Newcastle officials spotted in Portugal as Toon eye Brazilian winger and Porto talent – Report

According to reports in Portugal, Newcastle sent scouts to watch Porto’s 4-1 demolition of Braga on Friday night.

A Bola reveal that Toon officials were in attendance to watch Brazilian winger Pepe – who bagged a goal and an assist on the night – along with young goalkeeper Diogo Costa.

This isn’t the first time we’ve been linked with either, with summer reports in Brazil suggesting that we had a €30m bid rejected for Pepe by the Primera Liga champions.

As for Costa, it would be a surprise if we were still tracking a goalkeeper following Nick Pope’s arrival, although we may see the 23-year-old talent as a long-term replacement for Martin Dubravka and fresh competition for the England international?

In terms of the opposing team, A Bola suggest that Braga winger Ricardo Horta may have been another player we were keen to watch following his four goals and three assists in eight games so far this season.

Whoever we were watching, it’s clear we’re already planning for the January transfer window, with the arrival of a winger and midfielder expected to be a priority.
