NUFC loanee scores first goal for new club as four ex-Mags clash on Tuesday night – Video

Newcastle United loanee Jeff Hendrick scored his first goal in a Reading shirt last night, finding the net in a meeting between several former Mags at the Madejski.

In a home clash with recently relegated Norwich, new signing Andy Carroll forced Tim Krul into an early save with a trademark header, only for ex-NUFC defender Grant Hanley to open the scoring after the break.

However, Hendrick had the last say, firing a lovely half-volley past Krul to earn the Royals a point. It was his first goal since that dismal day at Wolves 12 months ago and a result that keep Reading in 3rd, with them behind only Sheffield United and Norwich at the top of the Championship.

As revealed by The Telegraph last week, we are still paying a big chunk of his £50,000 wages, so hopefully the Irishman can continue to impress in the second tier and secure a permanent move away from St James’ Park at the end of the season.
