Howe issues fitness update on Bruno Guimaraes and Kieran Trippier ahead of Man Utd trip

Eddie Howe has reassured supporters that Bruno Guimaraes should be fine for our trip to Old Trafford while he is ‘hopeful’ that Kieran Trippier sustained no injury after the pair were subbed off in our 5-1 win over Brentford.

Following our first goal of the afternoon, Trippier worryingly went down holding a muscle, but Howe believes this to be down to ‘fatigue’ following a tough international break and he assured fans that they’re really ‘trying to look after him’.

The England international was subbed off late in the game for Matt Targett who slotted in down the right-hand side and there is hope that veteran defender will be fit for our trip to Manchester next week.

Bruno was another to be subbed off with what looked like a knock, but Howe has revealed that the 24-year-old was just suffering from cramp and that he’s still ‘trying to build up his fitness levels’ after spending a number of weeks out injured.

After scoring twice and putting in a man-of-the-match performance, this will be music to the ears of all Newcastle fans who already can’t wait to watch the Brazilian grace the pitch once again next week.

Eddie Howe on Kieran Trippier:

“He just had a bit of fatigue, I think. He’s come back from England duty, where he didn’t play, and that two weeks can sometimes just knock a player’s normal routine and schedule.

“Touch wood, there’s no injury with him, but we’re just trying to look after him really – and get him through these games.”

Eddie Howe on Bruno Guimaraes:

“I said to him to run himself out and once he was done let me know. Again, I think the beauty of Bruno is he won’t let the team down when he gets to the point of being done.

“He’s obviously building up his fitness levels after his injury. He took responsibility for that to let me know so I could withdraw him.”
